Rasayana: Rejuvenation Therapy

Are you interested increasing your overall health, vitality, and longevity? Ayurveda has a category of rejuvenation therapies called Rasayana that focuses on cultivating just that. It uses herbal formulations, treatments, foods, and lifestyle practices to build our inner juiciness. Rasayana is derived from the words Rasa, which means “essence,” “plasma,” “juice,” and “taste.” Ayana is a “channel,” “path,” or “to enter.”  Rasayana nourishes all your body’s tissues reducing the effects of aging and enhancing your immunity. It maintains your body’s homeostasis. I recently took a workshop where the teacher spoke about Rasayana adding life to years so you can have a better quality of life. I love that concept of longevity.

Rasayana is used to build your system and increase bala (strength), ojas (vitality & immunity), medha (intellect) and Ayush (lifespan). It produces a healthy glow, a clear mind, enthusiasm, and contentment. There are specific Rasayanas for each of the doshas, tissues (dhatus), organs and more. This therapy is done after cleansing toxins, treating agni (digestive fire), doshic imbalances, and dis-ease.

Some of you may have heard of some herbs used in Rasayana Therapy. A popular one is Ashwagandha.  I have many clients that come to me already taking this herb. It is an amazing adaptogenic herb that helps your body deal with stress and at the same builds strength. However, you need strong digestion, it should not be taken with ama (toxins in GI) or if you have excess heat. This is why it is not a good fit for everyone.

Ayurveda is literally, “the science of life.” It helps to balance your body, mind, senses, and soul so you can live a healthier and happier life. Rejuvenation therapy is an integral part of the practice of Ayurveda.
